HYDRATION IS EVERYTHINGYour skin is alive, and its condition directly affects how your tattoo looks. If it’s dry, the ink fades faster and the lines lose sharpness.
What helps:
- Moisturize your skin daily — use creams or oils with vitamin E, aloe vera, shea butter, cocoa, or coconut oil.
- Stay hydrated — water keeps your skin healthy from the inside out.
- Avoid products with alcohol or acids — they can damage pigment.
SUNLIGHT IS YOUR TATTOO’S WORST ENEMYUV light breaks down pigment, making colors fade and outlines blur. Even black and grey tattoos lose contrast over time without protection.
What to do:
- Always apply SPF 50+ before going out.
- Use it even on cloudy days — UV rays still reach your skin.
- Cover your tattoo with clothing when possible.
- Skip tanning beds — they’re just as harmful as the sun.
WHEN IT’S TIME FOR A TOUCH-UPEven with perfect care, tattoos fade a little over time — especially on areas like hands, elbows, knees, or fingers.
You might need a touch-up if:
- colors look lighter,
- some parts didn’t hold ink well,
- or you want to bring back contrast and details.
I only touch up my own work — every artist uses different pigments and techniques, and mixing them can cause issues.
